Chris Christopher is a Los Angeles County law enforcement Detective with an expertise in real estate fraud. He has personally conducted thousands of criminal investigations where his depth of knowledge of white collar crime laws has resulted in state prison sentences for many fraudsters, in addition to the seizure of the criminals’ houses, bank accounts, vehicles and other assets. In many cases, the victims involved have been able to fully recover their losses.
Building on his 25 years of experience, he has lectured to financial institutions, lenders, escrow companies, brokers, and title associations. His presentations are punctuated with humor, and he has received high praise for speeches at national conferences.
Mr. Christopher has initiated new legislation related to notary public laws and mortgage fraud, and has been successful in refreshing outdated California fraud laws. He has appeared before both the California Senate and the California Assembly, where he has addressed a myriad of financial crimes issues. His legislative recommendations have been incorporated into pending legislation on real estate fraud as well as identity theft.
Currently working on national standards to prevent mortgage fraud, Mr. Christopher is collaborating with several federal agencies on the issue of sub-prime lending, mortgage backed securities and stated income loans. He is also working with state agencies and national organizations on the issue of e-notarization, a process that, unless modified, could contribute to increased fraud.
In addition to mortgage and real estate fraud, Mr. Christopher has gained expertise in a variety of other crimes including insurance fraud, cargo thefts, “black box” cable decoders, counterfeit products, and movie and music piracy. Numerous corporate investigators as well as federal, state and local government agencies have sought his direction on complex fraud investigations. He is a member of the International Association of Financial Crimes Investigators.
